Today I came across another family's blog with a child in Sh@ngh@i. I scanned through their blog hoping to find a picture of John John if they had received any from the orphanage. I didn't find any but their daughter is about the same age so maybe there will be some.
When I read the following statement on this blog my heart sank. These are answers to some questions the family asked about their daughter. It seems to pertain to all of the children in this room.
"So far, her speech is kind of delay. This is the common problem for all our children. Because we don’t have much stimulation to encourage them to talk. Also, we don’t have enough nanny to help child one by one.
She loves to eat anything. Because our food is kind of simple, she doesn’t have much to choose. So we think she is not picky at all. Usually our kids love to eat different snacks because we don’t provide much snack to them."
Breaks my heart. This is where our son lives right now. At this very minute he is probably having his breakfast in China. I read more.....
Another mom with a child from Shanghai was told by an orphanage representative,
"She told us that children stay in their room of 25 children of the same age and 2 nannies and that they have not had any contact with children in other rooms. She said that they are taken on a 'walk' through the gardens in the Spring and Fall and have not been outside other than that. School age children are allowed to play on the playground outside and watch some tv, but younger children are not. Younger than ''school age" children spend three hours each day playing in baby walkers. On the schedule we were given, time in the baby walkers is called 'activity time' but she said that it does not include any other types of activity."
Can you even imagine? I want our son home ASAP! I can't wait to see him sliding and playing on the swing and running around with his sisters!
